Press release

  • This press-release relates to the results of two analyses of the REDUCE (REduction by DUtasteride of prostate Cancer Events) study which were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Genitourinary (GU) Cancers Symposium, 5-7 March 2010 in San Francisco, USA
  • Eric Lai, PhD, Gen-Probe’s senior vice president of research and development stated: “These two studies, which involved more than 2,400 men, are the most significant conducted thus far of our PROGENSATM PCA3 molecular urine test, and confirm the assay’s ability to predict the outcome of a repeat prostate biopsy, thereby helping physicians provide more appropriate personalized patient care”
  • The first analysis was performed in the placebo arm of the REDUCE study including 1,140 men and showed that PCA3 Scores are statistically significantly correlated with a positive repeat biopsy (more information)
  • The second analysis was performed in the dutasteride arm of the REDUCE study including 1,308 men, and showed that the PCA3 Assay can also be used to predict repeat prostate biopsy outcome in men taking dutasteride and that, in contrast to serum PSA, the PCA3 Score is not affected by dutasteride (more information)
