The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) was founded in 1987 to provide unprecedented levels of service, quality and turnaround times in pathology.  The laboratory was established in Wimpole Street, London W1 and has grown as the various laboratory disciplines have developed and expanded.

The name The Doctors Laboratory purposefully implies that the service was designed to support the needs of physicians and consultants.  The pathology organisation has now expanded to include a wide range of analyses for General Practice, Consultants, clinics, hospitals, speciality and screening companies, occupational health departments, insurance business, pharmaceutical trial work, and importantly, laboratories and esoteric referrals from the UK and overseas.  TDL is the most experienced UK independent clinical pathology organization, providing pathology services for the private and NHS trusts at practice level.

The focus of the service has been to provide pathology testing, which is often disease or speciality specific, with rapid reporting times.   Most of the routine haematology, chemical pathology, virology and immunology results are available within 4 hours of receipt of the sample. The laboratory operates a complete 365 days per year service, processing up to 8000 patient requests per day. This is one of the largest and busiest automated facilities in the UK.

The laboratory service is fully accredited by CPA (Clinical Pathology Accreditation) UK Ltd and both the internal and external quality control of all tests is carefully monitored by its Quality Management team.  In addition to the Auto Lab facility, TDL has a full range of other pathology disciplines (Immunology, Virology, Cellular Pathology, Molecular and CytoGenetics, Microbiology) and an efficient esoteric assay referral department ensuring the high levels of service required by TDL’s customer base.

The growth and influence of the laboratory led to the development and opening of the most automated and advanced laboratory in the UK situated at 60 Whitfield Street, London W1.  The main features of this laboratory are speed, range of tests and service levels and the combination of the haematology and chemical pathology services are believed to be the best available in laboratory medicine.  From this site, we provide pathology testing not only to the UK but also to customers in the Far East, Middle East and Europe.

Results are available by electronic transfer, Fax, e-mail, paper copy or a combination of each, depending on the customer’s requirements. Off site report printing and result enquiry is also available, subject to IT connections. TDL operate a client ‘call centre’ from where every aspect of service can be managed.  TDL also provides dedicated courier logistics throughout London and the UK.
