PCA3 Score and tumor volume

  • This abstract was presented as a poster at the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2007 Prostate Cancer Symposium: abs. 354.
  • This study in 83 men with prostate cancer scheduled for radical prostatectomy showed that the PCA3 Score correlated with total tumour volume and tumour grade in prostatectomy specimens.
  • The mean PCA3 Score in men with low volume tumours (< 0.5 mL) was significantly lower than in men with intermediate volume (0.5-2.0 mL; P = 0.004) or high volume ( 2.0 mL; P = 0.002) tumours.
  • The mean PCA3 Score in men with low volume (< 0.5 mL) and low grade (Gleason score 6) was significantly lower than in men with significant cancers (P = 0.004) (Figure)
