Questions and Answers
Can every urologist perform the PCA3 test?
Yes, every urologist can perform the PCA3 test and collect the urine specimen that is needed for the test. There is no special experience needed nor are there special skills required.
If your urologist would like to perform the PCA3 test, he/she can find more information about the PCA3 test at PCA3.org Professional. In addition, he/she can contact a laboratory certified to perform the PCA3 test (PCA3 Performing Labs) or a PCA3 expert (PCA3 Expert List) for more information. A special PCA3 collection tube will have to be used for the collection of the urine specimen. This can be ordered from one of the laboratories certified to perform the PCA3 test. These can be found at PCA3 Performing Labs. Your physician/urologist will have to perform a special procedure before collecting the urine specimen, this can be found at PCA3 Utility. Here your physician/urologist can also find information on how to interpret the results of the test. The urine sample tubes will have to be sent back to the laboratory within 5 days. This can be done with an (air) courier. The laboratory will analyse the urine sample, determine the PCA3 Score and report back to your physician.
